A pitcher who strikes out 11 batters usually gets a win for the game, unless his teammates commit six errors. Ram senior pitcher Colton Fitzpatrick had 11 strikeouts but took the loss in a 6-4 game against the Ogden Bulldogs in Jefferson Tuesday.
Fitzpatrick pitched 5-2/3 innings before Daric Whipple and then Tyler Beger came in as relief.
The Bulldogs had seven hits and left 14 runners on base, but they committed only one error.
The score was 1-1 after the first inning. The Bulldogs went ahead 2-1 in the third inning and grew the lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but the Rams answered with three in the bottom of the inning to bring the score to 5-4. Ogden scored another run in the seventh inning for the final 6-4 score.
The Rams had six hits – a homerun from Daric Whipple, a pair of singles from Jordan Challen, a double from Reid Lamoureux, and singles from Jordan Hostetler and Tyler Beger.
The Bulldogs are 22-7 on the season. The Rams are 17-10. They play a non-conference game Thursday in Jefferson against South Central Calhoun, and then finish the regular season with Heart of Iowa make-up game in Nevada Friday afternoon. They start tournament play Friday, July 17, at 5 pm in Carroll vs Atlantic.
